Weijian Zhang

I’m the AI Engineering Manager at Marex, where I lead the AI team in building cutting-edge machine learning solutions for the finance industry, with a focus on large language models (LLMs).

Previously, I leaded the development of a client knowledge graph at IG Group. At Marshmallow Insurance, I pioneered the company’s in-house ML platform — the first of its kind in the insurance sector. Earlier, I led the creation of an ML-powered credit risk assessment system for Steadypay, a London-based fintech startup.

I hold a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Manchester, supervised by Prof. Nick Higham, and spent time as a visiting researcher at MIT’s Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, specializing in numerical linear algebra and time-dependent networks. Before all that, I studied fine arts at the affiliated high school of the China Central Academy of Fine Arts.
